Martial Arts

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Family News | 1 Comment »

I was 16 when my Dad started teaching me Martial Arts…I didn’t even know he knew that cool stuff!! *LOL* In any case, it wasn’t just me and him sometimes, some of my cousins joined in, and an Uncle that wanted to make like he knew as much as my Dad…

My Dad was a truck driver then too, and so it was just on the weekends that we had “class”….I took to it like a fish to water!! Not to say that I didn’t cry many tears of frustration when I didn’t “get” something, because I did!! But it was a desire in me, to learn it, to become good at it…It was I think the first time that I really set out, and stuck with something long term!!

My cousin Sonya joined in too, and soon we were an unstopable team, better than anyone in the class, and always wanting to do more!!

I say Martial Arts, because my Dad taught us things from several different styles, in case anyone was wondering….

It wasn’t all punching or kicking, or blocking either….One of our (mine and Sonya’s) things was Zen….which is a meditation….Relaxation and concentration in short…concentrating on your inner power..

Over the years, with me moving here there and everywhere, I stopped practicing…I often thought of it, the good times we had, the way it relaxed me (both Zen and the workouts of punching, kicking, and blocking), like a fond memory of the past…..Somehow thinking those times were gone forever….Even after the girls and I moved back, I didn’t give it much thought….Oh sometimes we’d sit down and do stretches, but we never went farther than that….

Well this past weekend, the girls and I watched Karate Kid…They thought that was really neat…Although I have to say that the Crane move at the end is pretty worthless, as your opponent can see exactly what it is that you will do, but that is for another time….Anyway, somehow the girls got around to the fact that Dad had taught me how to do stuff like that…and as curious as they are to try new things, they asked if I would show them……I was astounded by how many things I had forgotten!!!

Friday when we were out at Dad’s, the girls asked if Grandpa would like to have “class”….And so, me knowing they would ask, had brought along proper clothing (jeans just don’t work!! *LOL*)…We did class for over an hour…It was great!!! Exhillarating!!! I am not used to the role of teacher though!!! I sorely felt left out, as I was just trying to help the girls, instead of doing my own moves!!! I have to say though, I am very clumsy these days, in my moves…No longer is it second nature to automatically judge the correct distance for a kick, or to block efficiently!! With more time, with more work with the girls, and perhaps doing a bit of class after the girls have done theirs, I will be back in the swing of things I’m sure…

Small Business Valuation

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Piggy Bank | No Comments »

Here she sat at her desk. She had accomplished quite a lot in her young life, a strong career in Small business valuation, an ever growing bank account, many awards, and trophies in her school days, and yet she wondered when it was that she could go home….Her home was her haven, safe from all the pressures and stresses of the world….Safe to curl up with a good book, and forget about the mayhem that awaits her every time she steps outside the door…Oh, don’t get me wrong, it was nothing unusual, just the usual drugs, gangs, senseless murders, the government trying to say all was okay, all the while trying to enforce more laws that they said was “for the betterment of sociaty” but in truth, only took away more of the peoples freedoms.

She glanced at the clock, and wished time would speed forward….

Are Certain Books Wrong?

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Family News | No Comments »

I am an avid reader, and have been since I was about 10 years old…(NOTE: Before then, I hated reading!!) In any case, it’s not just one particular type of book, or one particular author that I like, I can’t really thing of a type of book that I don’t enjoy, given the right author…although I would have to say that horror books, such as Stephen King or Dean Koontz are my least favorite…But I read fiction and non-fiction alike….Romance, mysteries, western themed, biographies and history books too..For me, it’s all about how well they are written.

Since coming to blogland, I have encountered many peoples thoughts on certain books, and it has gotten me to wondering, thinking….Which is most usually a dangerous thing in my case, as I try to reserve my thinking for critical moments, as I’m horrible about having to make decisions!!

In any case, there is always a big to-do about books like the Harry Potter series, and Lord Of The Rings, and many other books, and even movies…Now keep in mind, I am speaking of fiction books, in this case!! Books written for the sheer joy of them, and to be read for the sheer joy of the story they tell.

What’s your opinion??

Used Cisco

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Piggy Bank | No Comments »

I have wondered of late what exactly cisco is…I have had this opportunity come to light acouple of different times, and every time I think that I should go look at the used cisco site, to find out exactly what it is that I’m talking about, but it always seems that I am short on time…as is the case this time, kind of….You see I still have acouple more entries to do, and to check email and such…It is 8:30am here, I haven’t been to bed since Saturday morning when I got up!

Now some of you might wonder why it is that I have been up almost 24 hours straight, but the most simple anwer to that would be “that’s just me”….I work overnights, which I’m sure doesn’t help, but I have ALWAYS been a nightowl, and have had trouble sleeping this past week to top it off, which is a fairly common occurance for me as well. In any case, I’m off to do a few more entries, as I have a busy week ahead, and don’t want to be pressed on my deadline for my paid opps.

Quiet Weekend

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Family News | No Comments »

Well, not much going on this weekend. Friday I had a meeting to attend at work, so I took the girls out to Dad and Bubble’s house. After my meeting I went back out there and we enjoyed a nice evening together. Especially since something exciting has been happening the last two weekends, but that is another entry for another time!

Saturday we stayed home….Got dishes done, and laundry!! Yeah!!! I am horribly bad about keeping up with housework, but am trying to do better!! Girls even played outside for a little while today, as it wasn’t freezing cold!! Other than that, we played card games, and read books…Girls played on the computer for a bit, and we watched acouple of movies…All in all, a quiet weekend, the kind I like best!!

Hansgrohe Faucet

January 27th, 2008 -- Posted in Piggy Bank | No Comments »

Have you ever gone to a place like Home Depot or Lowe’s and just looked around? Okay, I know, silly thing to ask….But I like going and looking around those types of places, as well as furniture stores….Now me, I’m not a fancy person, really don’t see the point of having fancy things, including furniture…But I do like to go to these types of places and dream about what cubboards I would have, or what couch or chair…Even things like what faucets I would like…Silly dreams, that will probably never come true, as I have heard the nightmares of people who have built houses, and I have no desire to face that nightmare, nor the resources to do so…but it’s still nice to dream of what Hansgrohe faucet would like nice in my bathroom or kitchen…
