Recieving My First

January 2nd, 2008 -- Posted in Family News, Secret Sister's | 3 Comments »

I was overjoyed today to recieve my first mailing from my SS…I didn’t think I would get anything again today, because I had checked the mail at my PO box, and nothing was there…(Silly me couldn’t remember if I gave the house address, or the PO box) and I thought mail had already been delivered to the house, but Des said she saw the mailman come by, at 5pm…That’s unusual, as he’s usually here early afternoon…In any case, I was estatic!!

I have to apologize at the lack of pictures…I don’t have a digital camera of my own, and had plans to use my sister’s, but it is currently unavailable, with now availability in sight!! (Tamara, I hope that’s okay!!)

I recieved 4 sheets of “Precious Moments” stickers, that are just darling!! The girls both have sticker books, that these will look great in..(SS hope you don’t mind!!).

I also recieved a bookmark, with Deut. 26:11 on it…”Rejoice in every good thing!” It is a good reminder to me!! I love bookmarks!! I put that one right into one of my devotionals!

Best of all in the package, was a letter. A very sweet apology and explanation of why she was late sending things. It was nice to know that she hadn’t forgotten about me, and most of all that she had been praying for me! It was also nice to know that she trys to check my blog daily…That I am in her thoughts enough to make her take the time to go to my blog!! There are times, many times that I feel so lonely, and to know that people come to my blog, that people are out there, is really comforting!!

I would like to share a part of the letter that especially touched me, and is making me tear up as we speak…

After reading your blog this week, I would like to encourage you to just keep on trusting God-especially concerning your Dec 18th entries! I am lifting you up in prayer and I am so excited about the praise reports that are on the way!! (hugs)”

At the end of the letter, she quoted Romans 1:7 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ”

All in all, it was a perfect suprise for the day!! It touched my heart, as it always does, to know that people do care for me!!

Thank you soooooo very much SS!!!!

Prized Posessions

January 2nd, 2008 -- Posted in Family News | 2 Comments »

After all the things that I bought for the girls for Christmas, I find myself wondering why I bothered. *LOL* I didn’t buy them hundreds of things, but I did have enough gifts to be what I consider a nice Christmas, and yet, as I said, I wonder why I bothered…

Out of all the things that they recieved, there were only a couple of things that they have really latched onto, and used or played with every day. I got them each a Bible, for which I am thankful that that is one of the items that they both hold in high esteem. I got them both a watch, which Desi has worn hers, but Meg has not, since the first day. They both got some Barbies, of which have been played with quite a bit, but really, those are the only things that I can think of that they have really played with, or used, latched on to.

I think this next year, I will try to come up with more meaningful gifts, and worry less about how many there are!! There is no sense in “wasting” the money on things that they won’t play with or use.

Piano

Learning to play the piano is one of the things I always wanted to do, but never got the opportunity to learn. I have hopes that one of the girls will want to learn, and that I can provide her the opportunity to learn!

There is a FREE email newsletter on piano chords and chord progressions. It is sent out free every 5 days or so and lasts for 101 issues. Again, I will say “It is FREE! There is no cost for the email newsletter”.

They also sell full-blown piano courses on DVD for adults which are mentioned in the newsletters, but there is never any obligation to purchase them.

You can find this great resource for Piano lessons & piano chords, at playpiano.com. Check them out, I’m going to!!

Mom is Santa

January 2nd, 2008 -- Posted in Family News | No Comments »

Well, as I said in an earlier post, the illusion of Santa is no more, for my girls.

My Mom was a Christian, but still did Santa, when I was younger anyway, and so, not even really thinking about it, I followed suit when I became a parent. Didn’t give any thought to it…Although I never emphasized the “Better be good, so Santa will bring you lots of stuff” part, I thought the illusion of Santa was pretty cool…In any case, when Des was 6 she started asking me if Santa was real…*LOL* Yep, that’s my Des, a very grounded girl, I guess you could say…In any case, I had put off answering that question…A lie by omission I guess you would call it…I would say things like “It’s all a matter of whether you believe he is real”…I thought they were too young, to have the joyful illusion of Santa destroyed…

Goodness, I grew up watching movies such as Miricle of 34th Street and Yes Virgina There Is A Santa Claus…I loved those movies, the joy and the magic of them…I wanted my children to have that same feeling….

Well, it didn’t quite work out that way this year, which is a good thing it turns out…I had been wondering if I should continue the Santa thing anyway, just by reading other peoples views on Santa, but had decided to go ahead with it this year, and give myself more time to think about the subject.

I had to work Christmas Eve, and the girls were still awake when I left, so I couldn’t do the stockings before I left, which means I would have to do them when I got home at 6am…I walked in the door, and Meg immediately jumps up and tells me that Santa didn’t come. I hadn’t had time to look at the stockings, much less put anything in them…About that time Des got up, so I decided that it was time for a family talk.

I told them the truth about Santa…Meg just looked at me and shrugged in her accepting way…

Des on the other hand, said that she was very upset that I had lied to her about Santa being real, and that she didn’t like it when people lied to her…

I sat there in wonderment..Even now I shake my head and think, aren’t those the same things that I tell my girls…”I don’t like it when you lie to me”…I got the message loud and clear!!!

I apologized to her, and thankfully she is a forgiving child!! At 8 she realizes that even Mom’s make mistakes, something that I am very grateful for, as I seem to make quite a lot of them!!! I am thankful that I learned this very important lesson now, rather than later into their teen years, or adulthood!! Lying, for any reason is NOT a good thing!!!! If I had not learned this lesson, than I might have made a simular mistake later on, and the girls might not be quite as forgiving at that time.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on Santa….
