Bubble Trouble
June 13th, 2007 -- Posted in Family News | 2 Comments »Bubble lost some of her ducks and geese to a (what we are assuming) racoon. So after work I helped her bury the dead ones. And have been helping her with the injured ones. One little one is good to go, just had a couple of minor scratches…We plan on putting her back outside tomorrow. The other, so named Lucky Duck, will be in the house for awhile longer. Presuming he lives that is. He had some injuries to his neck, and to his face. Racoon tried to rip his face off, and instead left a small, but gaping hole….Okay, that really sounds gross as I reread it, but that is what happened…He (LD) also has a few minor scratches on his bill….I have to admitt that I didn’t even know that you could scratch a duck bill….I assumed it was hard, and well, I don’t know, but not able to be scratched…Turns out, during out first aide sessions with Lucky Duck, that his bill is actually quite soft…Anyway, LD is hanging in there, and that’s about the best we can hope for right now. And NO, we never thought of putting him down, our family has always had injured animals under care….One of these days I will tell you of some of the injured animals that we’ve cared for, including a chicken named Goldie, whos story is quite incredible in itself!! For now, though, we concentrate on LD. Vet gave me an odd look when I went in to pick up antibiotic for a duck…*LOL* He is still really unsteady on his feet, but I got to wondering if his ear might have gotten injured, causing his balance to be off…He is alert, and drinking, and today was trying to clean himself up a bit, as well as ruffling his feathers, and stretching his wings…He even attempted to scratch his head, but that didn’t turn out so well, because of his lack of balance. We are thinking these are all good signs. Tomorrow, we plan to give him a bath, as he is all muddy and bloody, and not very happy about it.
