How Far Should Loyality Go?

I’m having a problem….Boy, I seem to have a lot of them don’t I?? *LOL*

Anyway, I have a dog, his name is King. He is a German Shepard…We have had him for about 4 year, maybe 5..We adopted him out of a shelter, when we still lived in Las Vegas….He was so scared when we first got him, that we had to carry him out of the shelter, and for the first 24 hours at home, we had to carry him everywhere, even outside to got potty. the second 24 hours I was the only one that could get him to walk at all….These 4 or 5 years have been wonderful with him!!! He learned his manners well….and grew to be very protective of the girls and I, which has always made me feel safer, knowing he would protect us….Well, this last month or so, he hasn’t been such a wonderful dog….he has been pottying in my house, when I am gone to work, even though I let him out before I leave, and I know he could wait if he so chose to…AND he has started getting into the trash when we go places, tearing it up all over my livingroom floor…Sometimes he will even take stuff off the counters and table too, when we are gone, like loaves of bread and such….I think he does it, because he is mad at us for leaving him. Before someone was almost always home with him, but since my significant other and I broke up, it’s not that way anymore….The girls go to the sitter’s, I go to work, and also all the errands around town and such….We try to spend as much time with him as possible, take him with us to the park, and on other walks, sometimes even take him on a car ride, but that is not enough to keep him happy apparently…..I don’t know what to do!!!!!! I absolutely HATE what he does when we are gone, but I also HATE the idea of getting rid of him!!!!!!!!!! Leaving him outside while we are gone is NOT an option as far as I see it…He is not a young, or exceptionally healthy, besides it gets WAY too hot here in the summer for any living creature to be out, as far as I’m concerned, and sometimes too cold in the winter, regardless of how nice a dog house he might have….Any suggestions as to what I’m supposed to do??? Just thinking about getting rid of him makes me want to cry!!! He is like another child to me….He has always been a very valued family member to me. And yet….CAN”T have him pooping everywhere, or tearing things up all the time!!!!!

Please, any suggestions would be helpful!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm… I don’t know if I have any advice for you. Personally, I would either give him away, or confine him to a room/kennel when you were gone… But that’s just me… We have a cat who has had a few accidents. Also, she is not allowed on the furniture. When we are gone, she will get on the furniture, where she wouldn’t even think about it when there are witnesses…. So, she is kenneled at night, and when we’re gone. We used to put her in the laundry room, but she would cry all night (and keep us awake) so we put her in a kennel, and put the kennel in the boys room. She is happier that way, being with her beloved Jared. (Weird cat! Preferring a small kennel over a roomy laundry room with her litter box and food!)
